This is Not the End
According to a social media post from the accounts of New Edition, Bell Biv DeVoe and Michael Bivins, it looks like BET’s miniseries “The New Edition Story” is not the end for N.E.
Capitalizing off the enormous success of the boy band’s biopic, it appears that all six members of the famed group New Edition will embark on the “Family Affair Tour” with the children and the adults who portrayed them in the miniseries.
“We’re looking at some things we want to do,” said singer/actor Luke James who portrayed Johnny Gill in the miniseries. “We understand we’ve done something that’s great for the culture and to our generation and to the generations to come. And what we want to do is keep that going. So yeah, going on the road is something we want to do.”
Going in the studio is something that New Edition has talked about also.
In a statement to TMZ, Gill stated that all six members have decided to reunite in the recording studio to complete their eighth studio album, and second album as a sextet (“Home Again,” 1996).
A future Las Vegas residency is also being discussed for the super group that includes, Gill, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe and Ralph Tresvant.
“We gotta capitalize off all of the noise,” Tresvant said. “We can’t sit around and be still. We’re in talks about a lot of great things to keep it going to add to the legacy.”
That legacy has included the production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis since they collaborated for the 1987 single “Helplessly in Love.”
Jimmy Jam has stated that if they had to kidnap the members of New Edition to get them into the studio, they would.
However, Brown let it be known that it would not be necessary because the group is eager to record new music together.
In the meantime, Gill has been touring with Charlie Wilson and Fantasia.
Brown is also on tour and recently performed in Las Vegas.
Bell Biv DeVoe is touring to promote their latest album, “Three Stripes.”
And Tresvant has a daily radio show in his hometown, Boston on WZBR-AM called “Inside the Ride.”
Despite all of their individual successes, fans are probably thrilled that this is not the end for the beloved R&B group.
