The third time might be the charm for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Many voters have expressed buyer’s remorse in voting for President Donald Trump in 2024.
Many Americans believed they would get cheaper gas, cheaper groceries and no new wars.
Instead, many of the president’s supporters have gotten the opposite of what was promised on the campaign trail.
And now the warnings that former Vice President Harris had in 2024 do not seem like overreactions or Trump derangement syndrome.
So, 2028 might yield different results for Harris, and she might take advantage of them and run for president again.
On April 10, while talking to Al Sharpton at the National Action Network convention in New York City, Harris said, “I might. I’m thinking about it.”
She added, “I served for four years, being a heartbeat away from the presidency of the United States. I spent hours in my West Wing office, footsteps away from the Oval Office. I spent countless hours…in the Situation Room. I know what the job is, and I know what it requires.”
Gerren Keith Gaynor of The Grio reported, “The former White House contender emphasized that any presidential candidate must not simply want to occupy the office but be squarely focused on the people who elect them.”
Many Trump critics believe he ran for a third time to stay out of prison, get revenge on his so-called political enemies, and boost his own ego by becoming a dictator, not to serve the American people.
Harris said, “The American people have a right to expect that anyone who wants to run for office and be a leader, that it can’t be about themselves, and what they want for themselves. It has got to be about the American people. I am thinking about it in the context of, then, you know is who and where and how can the best job be done for the American people. That’s how I’m thinking about it [s0] I’ll keep you posted.”
Gaynor reported, “Some in Democratic circles have moved past Harris as the party’s standard-bearer since her 2024 loss. They point to her loss as a sign that the country simply is not ready to elect a woman, more pointedly, a Black woman. Others say another chance at the top of the ticket isn’t out of the realm of possibility for Harris. Controversial actions by President Trump often lead to clips of Harris forewarning voters in 2024 with variations of ‘She told you so.’ Insiders also point out that, to date, Harris, who has strong name ID among Americans, has earned the most votes (75 million) of any presidential candidate in U.S. history, aside from her former boss, President Joe Biden, and Trump…
“However, any run again for the White House will be far more challenging for Harris than in 2024, when she faced no primary challengers. A crowded field of Democrats is expected in 2028. Rumored contenders include: California Governor Gavin Newsom, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, U.S. Senator Cory Booker, Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Congressman Ro Khanna, and U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”
While many Democrats want to move on from the Biden-Harris administration, the current president is proof that some politicians have that Lazarus effect, rising from a seemingly dead political career.
When Trump tried to overthrow democracy on Jan. 6, 2021, many Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham signaled that they had finally had enough of the 45thpresident’s controversial and temperamental behavior.
But after meetings at his Mar-a-Lago estate, many Republicans got back in line with the Make America Great Movement, catapulting Trump to become the 47thPresident of the United States.
Throughout President Biden’s administration, Trump and his supporters created havoc at every turn for the 46th President of the United States, saying that America had made a mistake in letting Biden “steal” the White House from Trump.
Republicans and conservative media personalities spent countless hours debating Biden’s cognitive skills.
Even Democrats got on board with the criticism, encouraging Biden to exit the 2024 presidential race after what many saw as a subpar debate performance against Trump.
After much debate, Harris became the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.
However, the initial wave of excitement gave way to people criticizing Harris’ laugh and accusations that she would lead the country into more wars, including World War III.
Trump was able to capitalize on racism, claiming that Haitian immigrants in Ohio were eating dogs and cats, and Latino immigrants were entering the country to take Black jobs.
Furthermore, Trump benefited from those who thought that a woman would be too weak and emotional to be the leader of the free world and that foreign adversaries would take advantage of a woman in a leadership position.
For her part, Harris warned that Trump would unleash the military on American citizens and threaten democracy.
Because some of her warnings played out like prophecy, maybe her political career has that Lazarus effect like Trump.
Also, in her favor is the fact that Biden won the presidency on his third attempt.
Trump won on his first and third attempts at the Oval Office.
Therefore, maybe the third time is also the charm for the first woman to hold the office of Vice President of the United States.
Harris also holds the distinction of being the first female Attorney General of California and the first female District Attorney of San Francisco.
