If Clowning Disabled O.K. for Trump, It Should Be O.K. for Crockett

(Todd A. Smith)

Mocking the handicapped should be frowned upon.

However, what is good for the goose should be good for the gander.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the Make America Great Again (MAGA) cult’s golden goose, President Donald Trump, it’s O.K. when they do it, but it is a problem when the other side does it, to paraphrase rapper Finesse2Tymes.

Annie Grayer of CNN reported, “Republican Rep. Randy Weber is planning to introduce legislation to censure Rep. Jasmine Crockett over recent comments the Democratic congresswoman made about Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, according to a draft of the resolution shared with CNN.”

The MAGA cult is up in arms because Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) referred to Texas’ Republican Gov. Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels.”

Rep. Crockett said she was not referring to Abbott’s condition, which restricts him to a wheelchair.

She said, “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear amongst the most vulnerable.”

The St. Louis, Mo. native added, “Literally, the next line I said he was a ‘Hot A$$ Mess,’ referencing his terrible policies. At no point did I mention or allude to his condition.”

And that type of excuse from Crockett sounds like the same type of excuse Trump’s supporters make when he does or says something offensive.

In fact, many of President Trump’s supporters cheered when he mocked a disabled reporter during his 2016 presidential campaign.

His supporters will even say that they do not pay attention to what Trump says, only what he does.

Then those same Trump supporters will get their panties in a bunch when Democrats say something that they do not like.

Just keep the same energy when a Democrat says something potentially inappropriate.

Strictly, pay attention to what they do and not what they say.

All of Crockett’s haters can kick rocks barefoot because when Trump suspended the rules of decorum, class and sophistication during his first presidential term, he suspended those same rules for everyone.

And Crockett is one of those real sisters that the right will fear for decades to come because she is no one to play with.

Many people know a schoolyard bully who is secretly a coward.

That person can dish out criticism and jokes.

However, they become super-sensitive when the rabbit has the gun.

The far-right has long said that they like Trump because he tells it like it is.

But when someone on the left also tells it like it is, they have a temper tantrum.

That is why Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C) could heckle former President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress, but Republicans chose to censure Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) when he stood up to Trump and rumors that he would take away poor people’s Medicaid benefits in a similar setting.

For a political party that claims to be strong, the Republicans sure have a hard time taking a little ribbing from their Democratic counterparts.

And for those who might believe that the president can rib people because he is the leader of the free world while others cannot, Trump was just a candidate when he made fun of the handicapped reporter.

Many Republicans saw the lack of class and humanity that Trump had and still voted for him.

Therefore, they can miss me with the criticism of Democrats like Crockett when they do similar things.

This is a new day in politics and many conservatives voted for this.

They voted for foolishness and then have the unmitigated gall to get mad when Democrats make a fool out of them.

Trump and all his MAGA minions are nothing but crybabies who cannot handle it when someone, especially a Black woman, stands up to them.

If Trump is truly a strong leader, he would not even entertain Crockett’s jab at Abbott.

Instead, his sensitivity got the best of him, and he had to resort to calling Crockett “a lowlife.”

If Crockett is a low life, it is because Trump lowered the bar when he became the first-ever clown-in-chief in 2016.

Democrats like former First Lady Michelle Obama tried to go high when MAGA went low.

But sometimes you must get down and dirty in an alley to win a street fight.

And trust me, Trump has never won a real fight in his life as evidenced by how insults get him so upset.

Whether conservatives like Crockett or not, they cannot say that she lies when she insults politicians across the aisle.

Her alliteration takedown of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) showed that she is the type of Democrat that is needed to take on a classless party.

The Republican Party is making the same mistakes many people thought the Democrats made when they constantly tried to punish Trump’s felonious behavior with impeachments and criminal charges.

Though Trump was deserving of prison time, his supporters began to look at him as a martyr.

The censures of Democratic lawmakers might make heroes of those on the left willing to take on a tyrant and his brainwashed believers.

But the real story is that human empathy has disappeared in the Trump era.

No one should fault Democrats for stooping as low as Trump because ignorance has worked more than intelligence in recent years.

Hopefully, one day soon America will return to the days of disagreement without disrespect.

Unfortunately, that will not happen until Trump is out of office.

And no one should fault Democrats for finally fighting fire with fire.
