Former President Donald Trump believes he will get reinstated as president in August.
When does it end?
President Joe Biden won the presidential election in November of last year.
Many lawsuits proved that voter fraud did not happen at a level that would have overthrown the 2020 presidential election.
In fact, many people who voted fraudulently did so in favor of the recently ousted president.
American democracy survived a deadly insurrection, barely.
However, former President Donald Trump and many other conspiracy theorists like QAnon believe that he will rise to power again in August, retaking the highest office in the land.
For the record, QAnon also believed that Trump would regain power on Jan. 6 as a result of the deadly insurrection.
Then the QAnon conspiracy theorists believed that he would regain the presidency in March because American inaugurations once occurred in March.
New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman reported that Trump truly believes that he will be reinstated as President of the United States in August, telling several people as much.
Haberman tweeted, “Trump has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August (no that isn’t how it works but simply sharing the information).”
What makes Trump’s delusions so dangerous in many people’s minds is the fact that groups like QAnon and people like former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell and Trump’s former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn have suggested that a military coup, like the one in Myanmar, could kick President Biden out of the Oval Office and reinstate Trump.
At a recent event in Dallas attended by many QAnon followers, a man who identified himself as a former Marine asked Flynn why what happened in Myanmar could not happen in the United States.
Flynn responded, “No reason, I mean, it should happen here. No reason. That’s right.”
Later, Flynn walked back his comments, claiming on his Parler account that his words had been twisted.
BBC reported, “The military is now back in charge [of Myanmar] and has declared a year-long state of emergency. It seized control on 1 February following a general election which Ms Suu Kyi’s NLD party won by a landslide. The armed forces had backed the opposition, who were demanding a rerun of the vote, claiming widespread fraud. The election commission said there was no evidence to support these claims. The coup took place as a new session of parliament was set to open.”
While the civilian coup attempt on Jan. 6 failed, many conspiracy theorists have still pushed the lie that the election could be overturned, leading to a controversial audit of the ballots in Arizona.
However, the suggestion of a military coup would represent a new low for American democracy.
And the fact that former Cabinet members or people close to the former president have condoned a military coup is especially troubling to many Americans.
On Parler, Flynn wrote, “Let me be VERY CLEAR—There is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort.”
Powell came to Flynn’s defense saying that he had not encouraged “any act of violence or any military insurrection,” claiming the media had “grossly distorted” her former client’s words.
While Powell said the media had distorted Flynn’s words, she herself said that Trump could be reinstated as president.
At the For God & Country Patriot Roundup in Dallas, Powell said about Trump, “He can simply be reinstated. And Biden is told to move out of the White House. And President Trump should be moved back in. I’m sure there’s not going to be credit for time lost, unfortunately. Because the Constitution itself sets the date for the inauguration. But he should definitely get the remainder of his term and make the best of it. That’s for sure.”
Earlier at the event in Dallas, Flynn endorsed the big lie saying, “Trump won. He won the popular vote, and he won the Electoral College vote.”
Those statements were untrue.
In 2020, Trump lost both the popular vote and the Electoral College vote.
Furthermore, in 2016 he lost the popular vote.
However, by winning the Electoral College vote that year, he prevented former Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton from becoming the first woman to win the presidency.
Although many Republicans continue to support the big lie perpetrated by Trump, a handful of Republicans like Rep. Liz Cheyney (R-Wyo.) have continuously spoken out against Trump, even though it has cost her politically.
Cheney tweeted, “No American should advocate or support the violent overthrow of the United States.”
Even if Americans tried to overthrow the government, would it work?
CNN reported, “For months, QAnon and Trump-supporting online forums have celebrated the deadly military coup in Myanmar and suggested the same should happen in the United States so Trump could be reinstated as President.”
First, per the United States Constitution, if a sitting president cannot fulfill his/her presidency, then the Vice President becomes President, followed by the Speaker of the House, President Pro Temp of the Senate and then Cabinet members.
So, no Trump will not regain the presidency unless he runs again and wins the Electoral College.
However, the fact that many conspiracy theorists, conservative media personalities and now former Trump Cabinet members have pushed the narrative about Trump regaining office puts people’s lives in danger because many simply do not understand how elections work.
