Did He or Didn’t He? People Disagree on Whether Drake Actually Gave McDonald’s Employees $10K Each
Did Drake or didn’t Drake?
People want to know the answer to the question.
Hip-hop icon Drake recently made headlines for gifting two McDonald’s workers with $10,000 apiece.
However, as more reports start flooding in, that might not be the actual case.
CNN correspondent Chloe Melas did some digging and found that the Toronto rapper tipped the McDonald’s employees $100 each, which is nothing to sneeze about.
Melas tweeted, “I’ve just confirmed with the PR company who represents @McDonalds that @Drake did not tip $10,000 to the employees he gave them $100 each.”
However, AJ, the Twitter user who goes by the handle @ImAJNoel has a different version of the story.
AJ tweeted, “Just saw Drake in McDonalds …crazy. And he gave two female employees $10,000 each…in cash.”
He later continued on Twitter, “& since y’all want to believe a certain individual (who wasn’t there) who apparently contacted a McDonald’s ‘PR team’ (who also wasn’t there) – this didn’t happen inside. He came through the drive-thru first & only came inside (with his security guards) to use the bathroom.”
Unfortunately as stories conflict with each other, it might not be the enormous feel-good story that people had anticipated.
On Saturday, a Drake fan tweeted out a picture stating that the emcee behind the summer 2018 anthem “In My Feelings” and the subsequent “In My Feelings” challenge, had tipped the workers with $10,000 each.
That version of the story took off like wildfire because of the current times, which is filled with negative news on an all-day basis.
Drake, who is known for giving out money to those struggling to make ends meet, like in his video for the hit single “God’s Plan,” scored a huge public relations victory again with this generous tip.
For a worker, maybe trying to make ends meet on a possible minimum wage salary, giving them $10,000 could be a life changing event.
With $10,000 someone could attend trade school, buy a car, pay their rent for over a year or even put a down payment on a home of their own.
But $100 could definitely by groceries for a week and help feed someone’s family, so Drake’s generosity is still beneficial to a working class family.
Thankfully, Drake is not alone in giving generous tips to those working hard to make ends meet for themselves and their families.
Model Chrissy Teigen gave a $100 tip on a $193.81 check at an Outback Steakhouse in Ohio.
Comedian Amy Schumer once gave a $500 tip on a $49 check.
YouTube star MrBeast once left a $10,000 tip for a North Carolina waitress.
Actor/singer Donnie Wahlberg gave a Waffle House waitress a $2,000 tip.
And Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman gave a waitress at The Moonshiners in Houston a $500 tip after he and his friends ordered water.
Bregman wanted his tip to go to an employee at The Moonshiners going through difficult financial times and he was informed that Jordan Thompson, a senior studying early education at University of St. Thomas had her car broken into earlier that day on Nov. 6, 2018.
“I was actually on the way to the bank after my classes,” Thompson said.
But when she returned to her vehicle she realized it had gotten burglarized.
Unfortunately, Thompson had a sizeable sum of money in the car that day.
“It was right before I had to go into work. They messed with the handles…the car is super old so it basically invited them in.”
Bregman, a product of Louisiana State University, created a YouTube channel to highlight his good deeds in the community.
“We thought this would be a good idea to come help a waitress who’s struggling right now,” Bregman explained. “I think it’s a good deed and I think when you’re an athlete or someone who has the platform that we have, it’s important to give back and…really use that platform in the right way.”
Before giving Thomson the tip Bregman admitted, “I’m actually kind of nervous to be honest with you. I wonder what her reaction’s gonna be.”
Obviously, Thompson’s reaction was that of sincere gratitude.
“It means a lot to me personally because of the timing and money getting stolen from me,” Thompson said. “I was super grateful and also relieved because now I can actually focus on school and have less stress on me having to work extra. As soon as I saw the money, I just hugged them. I was super thankful.”
And Drake, who also has ties to Houston, has given large sums of money to those working hard to survive.
For his “God’s Plan” video, his record label gave him a budget of approximately $1 million.
Instead of using the money on a high budget video shoot, he gave all of the money away to those less fortunate, while a video production crew captured each moment of generosity for the actual music video.
The Canadian emcee born Aubrey Drake Graham also gave $200,000 in scholarships to deserving students.
Therefore, did he?
Well, not this time.
But has Drake done it continuously in the past?
Yes he has.
So salute to “Drizzy Drake” aka “Champagne Papi” for his using his blessings to advance God’s plan by donating significant sums of money to those in need.
