Razzies Should Be Renamed Zoolanders
The Razzie Awards are the anti-Oscars.
That award is given annually to the worst movies and performances of the year.
If possible, those in charge of the Razzies should contemplate changing the name of the award to the Zoolander.
Because “Zoolander 2” epitomizes what the Razzie Award is all about.
Thus far, “Zoolander 2” should sweep the Razzies in every possible category.
In “Zoolander 2,” someone or some organization is murdering famous pop stars.
They have killed Lenny Kravitz.
They have killed Usher.
And they have killed Justin Bieber.
However, all of the pop stars have not died until they have posted the perfect selfie with the perfect facial expression.
Valentina (Penelope Cruz) works for the Interpol fashion police and the organization believes that the pop stars were trying to send a message to fans and authorities about their killers.
The only person that can uncover the meaning of the facial expressions is the ultimate male supermodel Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller).
However, he’s been living like a “hermit crab” for years since the tragic death of his wife.
His son has even been separated from him, and he along with his male supermodel counterpart Hansel (Owen Wilson) has separated himself from civilized society.
However, the opportunity to model again brings them back to Paris and allows them to correct the wrongs of the past and reestablish their careers.
“Zoolander 2” has several positive attributes and they are as follows: Olivia Munn, Benedict Cumberbatch, M.C. Hammer, Tom Ford, Vera Wang, Tommy Hilfiger, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and many other superstar cameo appearances.
Honestly, the film has a couple of laugh out loud moments, but only a couple.
Unfortunately for the film, that’s where the pleasantries end.
In a time when many people are openly criticizing the lack of diversity in Hollywood, this film will only add fuel to the fire.
The entertainment industry is a business and decision-makers have to make choices that they believe will make tons of money for their studio.
Films become franchises, or get a sequel, based on the performance of their predecessors.
However, if movies like “Zoolander 2” get the green light and movies like “The Best Man” have to wait 13 years to get the green light, something must be wrong with the traffic signals in Hollywood.
The traffic signals must have gotten broken over the last couple of years and the signal light is stuck on green for everyone.
The problem is if everyone has a green light, there is bound to be a massive wreck sooner or later.
Unfortunately for Stiller, his latest film is a massive wreck.
While the original “Zoolander” was hilarious at times, the sequel is just silly.
However, every movie cannot be groundbreaking like “Straight Outta Compton,” “Creed” or “The Revenant.”
Some films are made to be silly.
Luckily, there is an award for such films.
And “Zoolander 2” is probably the type of film the Razzies had in mind when that award was created.
