We Are Not Alone

What do you get when you put a popular comic book series together with visually stimulating graphics and visuals?

The outcome is this summer’s sci-fi film “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.”

The movie “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” takes place in the 28th century.

Special operatives Valerian and Laureline have been given an assignment to travel throughout the galaxy to keep order within human territories.

While on their mission, Valerian (Dane Dehaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) encounter a few “bumps in the road.”

From dealing with other species to addressing conflict within their own, the operatives are put to the ultimate test while embarking to Alpha City.

Alpha City is a metropolis where species from all over the universe have come to live together.

They have learned to work together, learned about the different cultures, and used the intelligence of each species to live in harmony.

But, there is a strong force that is threatening the harmonious environment, and it is Valerian and Laureline’s responsibility to make sure this doesn’t happen.

The movie “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” has incredible graphics and special effects that allow one’s imagination to run wild.

If eyes could talk, they would definitely have a lot to say.

For the techie- fans, Alex will easily become a favorite.

Although Dehaan and Delevinge may be unknown to some, there are a few cast members that might have a few fans.

From a few veteran actors like Clive Owens and Ethan Hawke to a few musicians like Rihanna and the legendary Herbie Hancock, the cast is definitely an impressive one.

If you are a fan of the comic book series, the coming – to – life characters won’t disappoint.

For those that aren’t huge followers of comic books and/or not familiar with this comic book series, it may take a while for one’s understanding to be clear.

“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” has so much going on that if you blink too many times or lose focus for more than five minutes, it will be difficult to catch up.

But, all is not lost.

As most action- packed, sci-fi movies do, “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” has all of the major components that will have appeal to a wide variety of moviegoers.

There’s drama, intensity, suspense and even a few heartfelt moments.

“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” isn’t one of those “glued to your seat” movies from the beginning to end.

But, once that magnetic force pulls you in, it will take more than a thousand planets to set you free.
