Life Imitating Art

Many know that art imitates life.

Great stories on the big and small screen often stem from the ups and downs of real life.

However, art can also make one reassess oneís life.  Movie characters can even make the actors look back at their life and honor those that helped them make it to the verge of Hollywood greatness.

Actor and television personality Terrence J portrays Michael in the ďThink Like a ManĒ franchise, and the characterís mamaís boy characteristics made the actor born Terrence Jenkins realize the importance of his own single mother.

His motherís influence led to his memoir ďThe Wealth of My Motherís WisdomĒ and a special connection to the character he reprises in ďThink Like a Man Too.Ē

RM: You were raised by a single mother, which is chronicled in your memoir.  We reviewed it for RegalMag.com and loved it.  How much did you pull from your real life with your mother for your character Michael and his relationship with Miss Loretta (Jenifer Lewis)?

TJ: You know what, the character Michael and being a mamaís boy was the inspiration for the book.  I have a great relationship with my mom.  After I played the character and I assessed how much my mom had an impact on my life and how it paralleled the character; thatís what made me write the book.

RM: What type of response have you gotten about the book?

TJ: Listen man, if I have one person, if I have a brother like you, that read the book and the book impacted you in any single way; thatís the only reason why I wrote it.  Any time you reach somebody thatís all itís about.

RM: What type of advice would you give somebody who came from a single-parent household and they think they have the chips stacked against them, but they see someone like you who went to college, went to BET, and went to E! News and now youíre doing your thing in Hollywood.  What type of advice would you give them if they have those obstacles?

TJ: You know, life is gonna hit you man.  Itís gonna hit you with the ups and downs.  And itís all on how you handle it.  Thatís what makes you successful or non-successful.  Thatís what makes your life happy or non-happy.  Itís how you handle lifeís obstacles. It doesnít matter who you are from Will (Packer) to Kevin (Hart) to me, Drake whoever, youíre gonna get hit with those types of obstacles and itís how you transition, itís how you process it.  Itís how you build upon those things to become greater.  Thatís what makes you a man or woman.
