Speak It Into Existence: Positive Thinking Produces Positive Results

by Todd A. Smith

A Positive Life Starts With a Positive Outlook

Have you ever been around a negative person?

You could be in a great mood, but after an interaction with a negative person your whole outlook turns negative as well.

That is because a person’s attitude, thoughts and spoken words can turn into a reality.

In the book “I Declare” by Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston wrote, “Our words have creative power. Whenever we speak something, either good or bad, we give life to what we are saying. Too many people say negative things about themselves, about their families, and about their futures.

“They say things such as, ‘I’ll never be successful. This sickness will get the best of me. Business is slow I don’t think I will make it. Flu season is coming. I’ll probably catch it.’”

Although life is not always that simple, often people talk things into existence whether positive or negative.

Whether someone is a praying person or not, often we can change the course of our life by believing that positive things will happen.

Illnesses sometimes go away when we think positively and are in good spirits.

Job opportunities sometimes become a reality when we open our mouths and speak it into existence.

Although it is already March and maybe too late for New Year’s resolutions, make it a point in 2018 to let go of doubt, denial and unbelief.

Instead, believe that your dreams will become a reality, your debt will be paid off and all of the ups and downs of life will be worth it now that your aspirations in life have come true.

This approach to life is very important for those in the African-American community because all of the obstacles we face in America as it pertain to systemic racism and discrimination.

We cannot always control or impact what happens at the top levels of American government, but we can control whether or not we let it impact our spirit, our hopes and our convictions.

Too many times I hear people in the African-American community say that we cannot attain our dreams because we will be stopped by discrimination and racism.

Too many times in the African-American community I hear women say that they won’t be able to find a good Black man because we are all in jail or womanizers.

Too many times I hear people plant seeds of inferiority into their kids for whatever reason.

Those negative spoken statements can also be spoken into existence like positive statements.

Unfortunately, some of our negative beliefs about our life or our place in society become a self-fulfilled prophecy and we often pass that negative thinking down from generation to generation.

In his book “Act Like a Success Think Like a Success,” comedian/talk show host/media mogul Steve Harvey wrote, “In moving toward your dream, it’s necessary to take the lid off the jar. Far too many of us let our age, race, sex, or economic background hold us down and restrict us from dreaming big.

“But you can’t allow yourself to be held down by what your parents did or the limitations in your environment. You can take the lid off of your expectations and dream big.”

Possessing what you want in life is often a matter of belief and attitude.

If you have a positive attitude and believe that the “impossible” is very possible, your life will change for the better, guaranteed.
