NFL Cannot Stop Colin Kaepernick's Purpose in Life

by Todd A. Smith

Colin Kaepernick Will Be O.K.

Free agent NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick may have lost money, temporarily lost a job, but he has found his purpose and calling in life.

While I am still adamantly against his comments praising late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro (check the interview transcript because his comments were not taken out of context as some have said) and the fact that he does not participate in the political process, that does not stop me from praising the brother when he deserves praise.

Over a decade ago, many people laughed at comedian Dave Chappelle for turning down millions of dollars and a television show because of his principles.

Years later, he has been able to retain his dignity, still speak out against the wrongs in Hollywood and now has been able to earn all of his lost money back via Netflix without selling his soul for a dollar.

Filmmaker Spike Lee recently made headlines when he suggested that Kaepernick could be getting blackballed from the league for not standing during the national anthem in 2016.

While Lee might be right, Kaepernick’s skills have diminished over recent years, and the combination of his controversial stance and diminishing skills is probably not worth it for many NFL teams.

Regardless, Kaepernick’s heart is definitely in the right place and God always takes care of His own despite the opposition.

Genesis 50:20 reads, “But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”

The aforementioned Bible verse almost seems tailor made for Kaepernick and his calling.

Sure, people may have hated him for his protest against systemic racism in America and police brutality, but look how much good his stance has done around the world.

Sure, you can prevent him from possibly making millions in the NFL in 2017, but that has not stopped his ability to raise over $1 million to feed the underprivileged in Somalia and the $50,000 donation he made this week to Meals on Wheels.

Sure, you can ignore him when talks about police brutality, but that will not stop him from educating young African-American children about their civil rights.

Many animal lovers thought they had ruined former NFL great Michael Vick’s career when he went to prison for dogfighting.

While Vick was totally wrong for his mistreatment of animals, an argument can be made that the prison stint saved his life and a lot of his money.

Who’s to say that Vick would not have gone broke associating with the leeches and hangers on that comprised his crew before his imprisonment?

Furthermore, who knows how many people’s lives and freedoms were saved because of the power of Vick and his testimony?

Powerful people need to wake up and realize that they do not have the power to adversely affect someone’s life if their “victim” is in God.

The aforementioned statement was specifically for President Donald Trump and people like him who said he is the reason for Kaepernick’s unemployment because NFL owners are scared to be the victim of one of his mean tweets.

Romans 8:28 reads, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Kaepernick has been called according to His purpose.

And all 32 NFL teams can ignore his agent’s calls from now until eternity, but that will not stop the brother’s purpose or influence.

The NFL cannot take away his celebrity, influence and platform because God gave it to him.

Football was never his calling.  It was just a means to an end to change the world for the better.
