10 Must Have Christmas Songs for Holiday Season

by Michael Allen

The Temptations, circa 1980, created the best rendition of the Christmas song “Silent Night.”  In 1980, the R&B group consisted of (L-R) Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin and Glenn Carl Leonard on the front row.  On the back row is (L-R) Richard Street and Dennis Edwards (Photo Credit: AP Photo/Lennox McLendon).

It’s Not Christmas Season Until You Hear These Classic Songs

In Black America, there is a saying that it is not Christmas season until you hear The Temptations’ rendition of “Silent Night.”

Now that Thanksgiving is almost over, it is time to dust off those other R&B Christmas classics too.

If you are getting your playlist together and trying to download the right songs, RegalMag.com has 10 songs, with some lyrics to get you in the Christmas spirit, that have to be on your list to avoid losing your “Black card.”

  • “Silent Night” by The Temptations—“Just sleep and relax your mind, to all our family and friends I want you to remember this line, Merry Christmas to all of you…Merry Christmas from The Temptations.”

  • “This Christmas” by Donny Hathaway—“The fireside is blazing bright and we’re caroling through the night, and this Christmas will be a very special Christmas for me.”

  • “Let it Snow” by Boyz II Men featuring Brian McKnight—“I don’t care what the weather may be, as long as you’re here with me.”

  • “Joy to the World” by Whitney Houston—“Sing joy, joy, joy, peace, love, joy, joy, joy, joy, sing joy to the world.”

  • “It’s Christmas (All Over the World)” by New Edition—“All my life, I’ve tried to do what’s right, first star I see tonight, please make my wish come true.  Why can’t we join hands around one tree?  Let live and let it be, make Christmas last forever.”

  • “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt—“Think of all the fun I’ve missed, think of the fellas that I haven’t kissed, next year I could be also good of you’ll check off my Christmas list.”

  • “Sleigh Ride” by TLC—“Just hear those sleigh bells jing-a-ling, ring-ting-ting-a-ling too, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.”

  • “Silver Bells” by A Few Good Men—“Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas, a Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas of silver bells of silver bells, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, yeah.”

  • “Give Love on Christmas Day” by The Temptations—“People making lists, buying special gifts, taking time to be kind to one and all, it’s that time of year when good friends are near, and you wish you could give more than just presents from a store.”

  • “Someday at Christmas” by Stevie Wonder—“Someday at Christmas men won’t be boys, playing with bombs like kids play with toys, one warm December our hearts will see a world where men are free.”
